Laís Bandeira Barros has a Master of Science in Structural Engineering and Construction from University of Brasilia (Brazil) and a B.Eng (Hons) in Civil Engineering from University of Alagoas (Brazil). As part of her masters, she conducted a study to investigate the applicability of artificial neural networks in the construction cost estimation of highways. During her undergraduate course, in addition to being part of the junior company, she has done a year abroad at the University of Surrey (UK). With a great interest in the management field, she has also worked as a researcher in a consultancy project for the Brazilian Army with the purpose of improving several processes within the Institution. In the SMARTINCS project she will investigate how the technical knowledge can be optimally brought to the market, focusing on the commercialization routes prior inventions in this domain have followed, in order to establish insights into the key success factors for each of the identified commercialization routes, and to understand the role of technology transfer intermediaries in the technology transfer process. The main purpose will be to indicate the suitability of established commercialization routes for structural engineering and develop new commercialization routes for the self-healing methods and systems developed in this project.
