Tim Van Mullem graduated in 2016 as a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Ghent University, Belgium. Being passionate about hiking and nature, he spent one semester of his Master at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, learning about hydropower and arctic engineering. After graduation, he started researching standardization of test techniques for self‑healing concrete as a PhD. As such, he was involved in the first practical application of self-healing concrete in Belgium. He has always pursued a strong international collaboration throughout his career. For example, his PhD research project was a cooperation between Ghent University and the Self-Healing Green Concrete (SHGC) Centre based in Sungkyunkwan University, Korea. In addition, he has been an active member of the COST Action SARCOS, being a manager of one of the six Round Robin Tests executed as part of the Action. As the project manager of SMARTINCS, he will be able to continue his international collaboration. Aside from being involved in the research, he will continuously monitor the project and coordinate the deliverables and milestones.
